I want a darker sound then the YTS-52 is giving me. I've seen so many other options out their and I know the best way to decide is to go out and test play them.

My question is what horn is everyone playing on? My mouthpiece is an ottolink #5 with a Rico Royal 3.5 reed.

Rico H Ligatures

Anyone tried the Rico H Ligatures on anything other than the standard hard rubber alto, tenor, bari soprano mouthpieces? We found the gold alto will fit a Guardala baritone mouthpiece and were wondering if the gold soprano would fit a Guardala alto mouthpiece as well.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Tim

Mouthpiece for Yamaha Alto

I'm getting an Yamaha YAS-62II Alto in silver probably this weekend. It comes with the 4C mouthpiece which I am pretty sure. I'm a freshman in High School, have been playing for 5 years, and am 1st chair over juniors and sophomores. I need a good mouthpiece, my band director from grade school says i need a professianal one, which i agree. I am very into music so I know most of my stuff. I play with a Rico 3. I was wondering if i need to change my reed as well. I posted this in another section as well. I was thinking about Plasticover, but I need a good smooth jazz sound for the songs I'm playing in concert, and I have a solo by the way, if that would have anything to do with the type.

Help

After playing on my bari sax for about half an hour, I notice that when i play, i get this wavering sound, like there is a leak in the sax. I checked every pad and key on the sax, and even switched to a different sax and changed reeds and it still happened. After a while of not playing, it goes away, but if I am to play long again, it comes back. Because of all the tests i have done with reeds and saxes, i think its the mouthpiece. I dont know what to do next. I use a 100/0 M berg larsen rubber bari sax mouthpiece.

alto sax playing & dental crowns

I recently had dental crowns installed on all my front teeth. Since then I'm aware of the considerable pressure playing exerts on the two top teeth that rest against my mouthpiece.

It's not painful - but I have a concern about loosening the crowns. Has anyone had experience along this line or heard of someone dealing with it? Or a dentist's opinion? My dentist doesn't play the sax & I"m not sure how helpful he would be. I'm wondering if adding a rubber cushion to the top of the mouthpiece would help without compromising my playing.

Any thoughts????

thanks!~

Matching Rico Royal reeds with Graftonite mpcs -- tenor sax

Can I get some suggestions on which strength reeds to use
for the Graftonite line of mpcs for tenor sax? The ones Rico offers look nice but the padded strap looks similar to the Neotech straps. I don't care for the neotechs because the elasticity in the neckpad causes the sax to actually bounce up and down. Do the rico straps incorporate this same elastic construction?

Also, I've found that most straps that I've owned tend to slip down while playing, so I peridically have to readjust the strap to keep the horn in proper position. Do your straps have some sort of non-slip mechanism? I've often thought that a 'belt-buckle' type of strap would be completely slip-proof but none seem to be available.

Valve Oil for Brass Instruments

Although this forum is generally for woodwind instruments, I thought I'd share a deal that would benefit any brass instrument players who participate here. I was playing at show where I lived and the drumhead broke, and its made of kevlar. I use thick, long heavy sticks, and i'm in a hard rock band. My tone is usually bright to warm. At this point, I just really need to know if there is anything out there. Your advice and taking time to read this is much appreciated.

Thank you

bass clarinet mouthpiese

I would like to buy 50pcs bass clarinet mouthpiece, please get touch with me by norman_li@263.net.cn the price is very important not too high.
