It's so versatile and I think that both Rockers and Jazz nuts will love this CD.

Here's a post I found on Blabbermouth:

On June 24, Greg Howe will release his latest studio album, "Sound Proof", through Tone Center Records. "Sound Proof" holds a raw energy element as well as a more of a spontaneous quality to it. Keeping the music organic, a lot of the material was assembled, and in some cases written, in the studio. "The guitar tone is definitely more edgy and organic sounding on this record," states Howe. "It's not quite as polite and compressed, but at the same time the overall sonic production is by far the best yet. It's a very modern production."

Wanting to connect the music with the masses, Howe's main focus for this record was to convey something that's relatable through the abstract language called music. "This time I really wanted to expand upon methods by experimenting more with sounds and tones as opposed to focusing primarily on intense composition and technique," explains Howe. "Of course there's still plenty of that to go around on this CD, but it's delivered in a more relaxed manner... this album is fun sounding... less urgent."

Howe was a leader in the shredding scene of the '90s before becoming one of the top fusion/jazz guitarists in the world and has influenced some of the most talented players on the scene today. His first record was critically acclaimed by the guitar cognoscenti and voted by readers of Guitar Player magazine as one of the best two records of that year. Howe's solo albums have always been laden with musical integrity and have gained a significantly growing audience as the name Greg Howe has become synonymous with modern musical virtuosity.

Howe continues to prove that he truly is one of rock n' rolls most amazing and versatile guitarists. Being an enormously gifted player, Howe combines elements of rock, blues and Latin music with jazz influences resulting in a stylized fusion sound. This record's focus is Howe's highly technical, yet very melodic, guitar style that has established him as one of the most innovative guitar instrumentalists of our time and a true guitarist's guitarist. On "Sound Proof", Howe has assembled a hot band that has gelled together to create a freshly unified sound. This record is a veritable smorgasbord of hot chops as each player never fails to impress on these awesome rock/fusion/jazz compositions.

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/bla...wsitemID=99406

how to examine or check a guitar

hay everybody

how is goin on??.....hope.... fine......:)

how to check a guitar when u r buying it??...... guitars may be new or used. It has no emotion, no soul, no heart. It's friggin noise. The bands behind them especially suck. I don't care how fast your hand and fingers move, or how hard it might be to play the way you do. In my book, you gotta have soul first. The brain can't connect emotion to the hands at 64th note speed. In fact, when they play slowly, they still have no soul. SRV is the only guy I know of who can play fast with soul, and he doesn't "shred" I've listened to all the famous ones and none of them do it for me. I'll alert the Guitar Talk Board when broadcast is imminent.

Dennis

http://cdbaby.com/cd/dennisdoyle2

Favourite modern folk/acoustic player?

I'm not generally in touch with the acoustic scene, but last year went to the Lewes Guitar Festival (UK) & saw some great artistes including Kate Walsh and Richard Thompson, to name but two - superb live solo performers. Joe was a Territorial Policeman in Alaska in the Fifties back before it was a state. He was also my father-in-law. We were fishing buddies and I got to know him on those long drives up to the fishing hole in the Mt. Hood National Forest. He used to regale me with yarns about his days in Anchorage, Fairbanks and especially Ketchikan. To his dying day, he spoke wistfully about the best times of his life and the cruel turn of events that cut short his Alaska Police career.
You can hear the song here:

http://www.folkalley.com/openmic/song.php?id=1541

It's on iTunes and on CD Baby
Dennis Doyle

The Telephones U.K

New demo is up out and about, Thanks to Di addrio strings, I love my guitar sound now.

http://www.myspace.com/penniesmith

Cheers.

R.I.P. Joe Zawinul

Member and founder of the 70's fusion band Weather Report has died today at age 75. The band at it's high point consisted of, Joe Zawinul {Keys, Synths, Piano}, Peter Erskine {Drums} , Wayne Shorter {SAX}, and The Late Great Jaco Pastorius{Fretless Bass}.
Known as the Fearsome Foursome, they stormed the 70's scene with a new sound, Rock and Jazz combined and sprouted many spinoff groups such as Return to Forever {Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White, Al DiMeola, Flora Purim.}, John McLauglins Mahvishnu Band, and others.

Zawinul, a musical monster was a virtuoso on his instrument dominated the style and was one of the firsts to utilize the polyphonic sounds into music. Now two members of this awesome jazz group are gone. I have to go listen to 8:30 now in his memory. God Bless and R.I.P. Joe Zawinul. :crying:

To All Players!

To all bass and guitar players.

Do you play with a pick, or with your fingers and why do you prefer one over the other?

AMAZING VIDEO of Greg Howe Improvising

I'm new here, but thought I would kick off with posting something that I thought was fantastic.

An AMAZING Greg Howe video clip playing over "Sunny" backing track.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edVbz_uXJd0

GH is just by far one of the most incredible guitar players I've ever heard.
