well les paul is no longer with us,,, passed few weeks ago .....since no one has posted thought i would.....and for all of you out there that has a lp being it a copy or the real deal,rip out good old tune for one of the best out there;)....me when i heard of the news i took my old 74 lp delux out and played few tunes on her as well as i cranked up the tube amp and shook my basement walls just a little:w00t::cool::cool: ....may he allways be remebered,and never forgoten.:cool:........to me i think one of the best axe.s made ....mine is a 74 she still kicks ***........just my thoughts ,,,,,,,,lp57

old 335 gibson

just got an old 335 gibson ,,was my father inlaws......nice axe think it is 60,s not sure of the age ,but dose have an old crown on the head stock....thin neck ,tones are awesome....just cleaned it up last night ...think it is birds eye maple body,,,has faded over the years....trim on body has truned yellow..has 5 vol,knobs f holes in it,,, hollow body....seems alot of dust inside the body as well.tryed the air in a can to bring it out ,,not sure if i should try any more about the dust .....but alot did come out///now any body ever have one of these out there???any other way of getting the dust out with out messing up the pods/?????next i use 11s ,,, strings on it seems he had heaver gage on it ......if ya have any imput would love to know about it......this axe is in nice shape dose have little belt buckle rash in one small part in back ,seems the clear coat has chiped off....little worn on back side of neck as well ,other then that it is real looker....plain wood,, no paint on it....any tips on bring out the shine.or rehaping it with out stiping any thing??????slickest neck i ever played on ,real thin kind of like an sg ,but end of the neck seems alot smaller,you know the first fret....dark brown stain it looks like...any way wondering what it is worth as well.....not that i would sell it ....it is a keeper for sure ,, plus been in my wifes family for long time...her dad is in old folks home....shame becase he can not remember how to play any more,,,,,,so we want to keep this axe ....looks like the axe bb king plays....so thanks and hope i waked some of you up out there...seems this place is not around any more.......lp57

hey was on va ca week ago and my step mom in va gave me this old axe my dad had for long time it is called true tone number inside is l 7393 .has a bolt on neck .floating brige////and steel tail to hold strings.....odd looking axe for sure....neck seems good,, rose wood fretts as well....built like a tank....any hey any one ever hear of this brand ....think my mom says he got it in the late 50,s not sure how old it is but it is old for sure...any help would help .....lp57 ps it is dark burst as well .black ,,gold in middle

hey just thought i;d share with ya all about friday night ,been trying to hook up with my old bud from years back i use to jam with:w00t: .so long story short .we met up at our watering hole here in delaware,the good old v f w club;) ....well took my flat top up there to do little playing...was dam good time :cool::D...hell some of the old timers up there never heard me play befor .they were beside them self :w00t::w00t:....lol befor you know it me and my long time bud billy ray ,,,, we were taken turns doing old tunes from way back .befor ya know it people were comming up to table asking us to play this play that ,,,bringing us brews ,,,shots ./was dam good time ..hell must of done 2 hour set or more ....now the kicker was,,,,they asked if we could do it every friday night ....and most of those old timers up there get little pissed off when juke box is on ,,,,,,go figure .....lol....but we played what they wanted to hear ,plus few they didn;t want to hear .and all in all was a blast .......no pa ,no drums ...just in your face raw ,as we would say ...balls to the wall unpluged......hell even had some sing alongs as well......plus had a hell of a buzz when i left ......any hey just to let you know that you do not need a band to have a good sound ,or good time playing out ......and let me say this .not only did i knock off the dust on my flat top .but those figers are peeling as we speak.....lol.....lp57

It's very early days at the moment, but members are very welcome - whether you're a serious collector, starting out or simply interested in guitar collecting or guitars in general. Maybe you've never thought of yourself as a collector? It often starts by accident...[i] hey, how did I end up with 5 guitars... and I've just seen an old Strat I fancy... I've always wanted a Rickenbacker....[/i] etc. :)

Any ideas on what makes a good forum? Any suggestions gratefully received.

hey guys ,i know there are some of ya still out there..... us old timers that is ....me i;m on some down time now from a op i had week ago .bored just now getting up and around some what ,,,try to get on the forum seeing whats up around here.but lately seems no one is posting or just so dam busy have no time ..any how wondering whats up in your life .and any one out playing ??????me i;m trying to get back into the swing ,but seems life has a way to keep ya so busy or just not getting the time to enjoy the part we all love ,,music ,any how sorry to ramble just thinking about how busy this place use to be ,how most of us found the time to check in ,tell us how things are going in there music part of there life is ....i know things are not what they use to be here ,but hell,sure do miss the old days ......me i;m playing little bit ,now and then ,doing an unpluged thing at our v f w club .seems to still be fun so far ,trying to get the band back together playing in the basement on week ends ,but not given up or given in ..just keep on trying to keep us all togther,the band that is .plus always looking to go out playing any chance i can........all that said check in ,let us know how things are going in your music life ,if ya still have one ....i know it is hard at times to try to hook up with the guys ,even if it is just to jam.....so be good ,,keep on playing,,never stop ..keep the love alive......god gave us this talent ,,,pass it on to the ones who love it as well.....keep on playing like ya live it .....lp57

I was wondering if anyone here ever attended Recording Engineering classes at The Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, Ohio. I attended the 5 week course in July/August of 1986. I found it to be a great experience with alot of hands-on training. If you happened to attend the classes there post the month(s) and year you attended.

repair on reel to reel

Lame Musicians

I moved to Eastern NC and I played with a band and these jokers were so lame it was embarrassing but they are all lame here. I hate when bands play it safe ALL the time. I know the people here are conservative but I think even they would like something different once in a while. I'd rather flip burgers than play with lame musicians.

My wife and I are stuck here for a while and I think I am going to retire for a while and work on chops and theory. Also as a bass player I was treated like an after thought even though I was the best musician in the band. I guess I am not used to mediocrity and the Confederate swastika.

What also sucks is there are a lot of brothas where I live but you never see any Black bands. You don't see any of them in the clubs here either. I'm thinking that maybe there are some brothas here that have some feel and musicianship. I was thinking of starting a band called Jim and the Crowes. :w00t:

Denny Doherty of the Mamas and Papas dead at 66

TORONTO (Reuters) - Denny Doherty, a member of the 1960s folk-rock group, the Mamas and the Papas, which was known for such hits as "California Dreamin'" and "Monday, Monday", has died at age 66.

His sister, Frances Arnold, said the singer-songwriter died on Friday in Mississauga, Ontario, just west of Toronto, after a short illness, Canadian Press reported.

Doherty was the only Canadian in the Mamas and the Papas along with Americans John Phillips, the group's chief songwriter, Phillips' wife Michelle, and singer Cass Elliot.

In 1998, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Doherty was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1996.

Doherty, born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, co-founded a folk group called the Colonials in Montreal in 1960 and later drifted into the New York folk scene, where he met Elliot. He joined her in a band, the Mugwumps, along with another Canadian, Zal Yanovsky, later of the Luvin' Spoonful.

Doherty, Elliot and John and Michelle Philips formed the Mamas and the Papas in 1965 after signing a recording contract with Dunhill Records. Between 1965 and 1968 they were a big part of a California pop scene that included such bands as the Byrds and the Beach Boys.

In 1966 "California Dreamin'" became the first of a succession of hits that included "Monday, Monday", "Go Where You Wanna Go", and "Dedicated to the One I Love" that were characterized by soaring harmonies with Dohertry signing tenor.

The band sold an estimated 20 million albums but relationships among its members was undermined by jealousy and drug use.

Doherty co-wrote the songs "I Saw Her Again Last Night" and "Got a Feelin'".

The Mamas and the Papas disbanded in 1968 following John and Michelle Phillips' divorce. The group reformed briefly in 1971.

Doherty made a solo album in 1974, and in the 1990s he had a major role in the children's TV series "Theodore Tugboat", in which he voiced all the characters and played the Harbourmaster.

The 30-year-old Elliot suffered a fatal heart attack in 1974. John Phillips died in 2001 at 65.

Michelle Phillips is now the only surviving member of the band.
