| Never heard of it before, sounds interesting, but I'd be wary of using it to over-stretch your voice. Like if your tendons are hurting you should stop playing, not just cover it up with painkillers. Not that I have any idea about vocal chords etc. just strikes me as a similarity. They might well be helpful for speeding up recovery of voice. Let us know how you find it Anton

| Because of its diuretic properties, though a stiff alcoholic beverage can cut through the crud, it can also have a drying effect on the vocal cords. Caffeine can have the same effect, leading to earlier vocal fatigue and a scratchy throat. So it's good that this spray (link) is alcohol-free. I would assume it's sugar-free, too, as sugar, like in a gas tank, only serves to gunk up the vocal cords. As for the other ingredients, aloe vera seems like a reasonable thing to include, but I can't vouch for any of the other herbs. Marjoram, by the way, is a variant of oregano. Osha is claimed to have all manner of beneficial properties-- mostly respiratory, but you'll be pleased to know it's supposedly good for the uterus, too. Tylophora is also alleged to have respiratory benefits as well, but according to the link I've included here, "it is said to have laxative, expectorant, diaphoretic (sweating), and purgative (vomiting) properties." Probably something you don't want to overload your system with. Separate from what's in this spray, I've heard of licorice-based teas being touted as having nose/throat/lung benefits, and actually found one that doesn't taste horrendous. But I don't know if there are benefits in licorice tea besides its pungent "cough drop"-like qualities, and the throat clearing power of any hot beverage. Btw, although it tastes like licorice, Sambuca is apparently flavored with anise; close, but not the same thing, and still with the drying effects of alcohol. So, hot water is free, and carries no side effects (except steam). The stuff in "Clear Voice" probably won't do any harm, but might not do anything more for you than simply staying hydrated would. And for a price of $14, those are awfully tiny bottles. |

| Nope, haven't tried the spray. My singing has been outlawed by the Geneva Convention, even for use in interrogations. Haven't tried Sambuca either-- never liked the black jelly beans in the Easter basket , so I don't know if it would be my kind of thing. |

| MJF, Where did you get that barfing emoticon? I love it! Frozen Sambuca....pffft.... Everyone knows Sambuca should be mixed with strong espresso and consumed curbside at a cafe, straddling a Vespa with your best friend's freshly seduced bombshell wife perched on the saddle in a brazen display of conquest. Ideally, you should be able to consume the entire scalding demitasse of boozy coffee and kiss said donna bellissima without removing the lit cigarette from your mouth. If you're going to go the frozen shot route, try Jagermeister, it's even smoother and has a supermarket seasoning aisle's worth of herbs. Some of them must be good for you.

| I consider any of that stuff to be like "mechanic in a bottle" products that tell you better gas mileage, less oil consumption, increase horsepower. Tea with lemon and honey is what I have always seen most vocalists use.

| Drink a lot of water. That is actually the only thing that is good for your voice. Chamomille tea and honey do soothe the voice, but tea has a drying effect, and honey coats your throat with phlegm. Not good. Caffeine (coffee, tea, soda) is bad. Alchohol is even worse. Carbonation is not good for the vocal chords. Avoid excessive amounts of salt, sugar, milk, and juices that only promote phlegm. Despite popular belief, candies, mints, cough drops, despite temporary relief actually make things worse. Chewing gums all have a drying effect and are not good. Smoking of course is the worse thing to do. You don't have to cut everything out but if you are full time singer you need to keep it to a minimum all the time, and watch what you put in your body. You want to get to the point of not needing relief from your own voice. With all that said Bro' it's OK for you and me to have a Sambucha, Vodka, and a beer, over a ciggie, while we discuss how the soundman is doing. (OK so I made an exception......Geez!) Seriously water, water, and more water is the only proven help for the voice because it hydrates the body. Some use warm water which is fine too. Fret |
