The only reason why we as a Society have become somewhat conscious and concerned about our environmental destruction is not because of consideration for this planet and our fellow inhabitants, but because we becoming aware of the fact, that on the current path, we are only destroying our own living space.

If we had other options …..could just leave, ( to another comfortable world), we would probably continue, without giving it a second thought.

It is the fear of our own self-induced extermination that is putting “the fear of god” into us.

The knowledge that we have no other place to go at present.

Venus, for example (400 times the atmospheric pressure then earth) is floating around just fine without us, as do countless other places in a universe which extent we have not even began to fathom

Pretty little Earth does not need us either.

We are a relatively new occurrence here….nobody needs us, we so insignificant in the big picture.

Apparently it’s just us that needs us…..and the fictitious, forever needing our worship gods that we have created in our minds and in whose image we pretend to bask.

Which means this new awareness of our environment is just another self-serving, self preserving notion rather then that of benevolence and consideration.

Don't kid yourself.

Here's something to ponder:

Let's say you're prognosticating friend is correct and we are too late. So what? What does that really mean? Doesn't it just mean that we might be able to see how we are going to die? Like, for example: Knowing that the polar ice caps will melt and raise the levels of the oceans means that I might die when a horrible tsunami comes and washes me, my house and drums and everything else into a sort of large-scale blender that will swirl and stab at my body from all different angles. I, in shock, gasping for air...but getting only water, in excruciating pain, inevitabely succumb to death. Maybe I'll see some kind of cool light and then maybe I'll go to the light. So what?

Something is going to happen in 2112...You know what is going to happen? RUSH is going to re-unite.

What's up with the editing your post out of ClockTalk? Did you change your mind?

It's an "interesting" scenario/subject...but it only "works" if you are afraid of death. Religions and governments have always relied upon first generating some kind of fear. Then they create a solution to the problem and make you think that, if you follow what they tell you, then you'll be saved. With religion, people are afraid of eternal Hell...so, they better act right...or else! And whoever has the silkiest robes and pointiest hat gets to tell you just exactly how to act right...you don't get to question any of it, either...because merely questioning these Godly ways could earn you a red-hot trip down the River of Fire Slip-N-Slide.

And, when it comes to political application of fear...What did we all learn from 9-11, class? Your government loves you. It wants what's best for you....really.

Think of it like this: Your a single stalk of wheat in a gigantic wheat field. You hear a noise and eventually come to find that the noise is the Grim Reaper driving  one of these:

LIVE! EAT! SMOKE! DRINK! FUC K! DRUM!!!! HURRRRRY!!!!!! It's getting closer!!
