| | Alright... forgive me for asking a stupid question, but what diference does shell depth make for toms? I've just realized that I really don't know. |

| | I think Amrawco just needs a 12X8 vintage 3ply Ludwig tom for the sound he's craving. I don't believe or know for sure if cutting down another type will achieve this. |

| | You are probably right Oly, i wish i had every drum that turned my head over the years wether they matched or not. Ive had Yamaha kits (birch), Premier...both birch and maple, Sonor maple kits etc but looking back over all these years Ludwig just had a sound that i fancy. Every 8x12 ive heard had a special something over the 9's and 10x12's. Ive recently went back to using a 16x16 with legs instead of a 14x16 hanging and love the difference. |

| | I had a kick shell - with a re-ring - cut down, and it turned out excellent at the hands of L.A. tech/repairman Chris Heuer (http://heuersdrumlab.com/) There are a few considerations in cutting down a tom (which doesn't have nearly as much 'real estate' to work with as my kick did) such as how existing hardware holes will be dealt with after the cut, and where the badge will end up from top to bottom. It needs to be thought through first, but it's certainly not impossible. Chris is absolutely your man in terms of duplicating the new edge, and returning your drum looking as if it was manufactured that way. Bermuda |

| | I've always wondered what they did with the old hardware holes. I've thought about picking up one of them "cheap" OCP kits from the guitar center, but I really don't want a 20 inch deep kick. It just seems a bit large to me, and hell, it'd be hard to gig with in my opinion. |
