| I've been breaking strings more often than usual...probably because I've been playing in a lot of different alternate tunings (mostly DADF#AD and DADEAD and back to standard very often).
Is there anyway to increase the strings' longevity, especially against all the stress I'm placing on them? I'm also curious if there might be imperfections in the tuning posts that might cause breakage - they are breaking at the posts every time. |

| "...more often than usual..."?? Usual is for strings to rarely break. If this occurs frequently, then you need to have your guitar looked at by your favorite local luthier.
Where are the strings breaking? I'd be looking for the reason they keep breaking.
Loosen the strings, clean them AND the nut grooves and bridge saddles. While you have them loosened, check for burrs on the nut, the saddles, AND the strings.
I just posted a question regarding nut and bridge saddle lubricants. You might want to follow that thread and see what suggestions I receive.
I've had great luck with D'Addario for over 10 years on everything from nylon classical guitars to tremolo electrics, and never had string breakage problems with them.
Try a different source for purchasing your strings, or buy them directly from D'Addario online, to be sure you're getting what you think you're getting.
One of the main reasons I use D'Addario is because of their consistent quality. I don't think the strings are your problem (unless you're being sold something else packaged as D'Addarios).
